Life is full of assignments and callings—roles that God has planned for us long before we ever walk this earth. Some of these roles are conditional, tied to obedience, character, and timing, while others are part of God’s ultimate, unstoppable purpose. Understanding this balance is crucial, because while God’s plan cannot be thwarted, the path He has designed for each of us can be affected by our choices.
It will interest you to know that Isaiah 7:14 only spoke about the fact that a virgin shall conceive but said absolutely nothing about the name, family, or tribe of this virgin. This entails that just about every other virgin in Israel, or at least in Judah, could have qualified to carry the Messiah—but God chose Mary. Little wonder the angel declared to her that she was favoured.
Taking a critical look at the situation, it is easy to see that if Mary had disqualified herself prior to the appointed time, it wouldn't have mattered whether she was favoured or not—she would have been disqualified from carrying the Messiah. Her virgin status, therefore, was the non-negotiable quality she had to sustain to be considered as one who could carry the Messiah. Mary could have done many things and obtained mercy in the past, but she remained qualified to carry the Messiah as long as she did not lose her virginity. If she fell into any sin that caused her to lose it, she might still obtain mercy, but she certainly would not carry the Messiah.
The scripture, speaking in 1 Timothy 3:2, lists as part of the requirements of one who desires to be a bishop being the husband of one wife. So, what happens if someone originally destined to be a bishop becomes a polygamist for whatever reason?
Kingdom functionaries sent to territories sometimes lose the scepter of their offices because they get caught in the controlling sin of the principalities of these territories. It depends on the degree of the fall, but sometimes God’s solution, after sincere repentance, will be redeployment.
It, therefore, becomes important that as we travel through life, we understand that the cost of sin varies by individual, based on their destinies. The Blood of Jesus will surely cleanse when you return with a broken heart, but God may need to outsource your assignment to another simply because you crossed a line that made you unfit to feature in the place He originally desired for you.
We must understand that every time we indulge the tempter and allow sin into our life, we place our destinies on a platter and risk unbearable consequences. Satan knows you will be forgiven if you return to God, no matter what you did, but sometimes he is just interested in truncating your destiny.
